Meet Our Facilitator


 

             Debbie Schmidt
 

I was born,  raised  and educated in Southeast Iowa.  My parents were foster parents for about 10 years in the 1960's. I graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University and  received my Masters from Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

For over 24 years, I worked for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Ft Wayne- South Bend, Indiana in various positions. In 2002, I became the Executive Director. I planned,organized, directed the organization’s administration and programs and services including Refugee Resettlement, Refugee Employment, Refugee Afterschool Homework Help, Immigration, Adoption, Pregnancy Services,  Early Child Care Programs  including Head Start and Before and After School Programs, Emergency Response Services and Food Pantries, Counseling, Translation and Interpreation Services, RSVP, Title V Senior Employment, and Residential Living for Seniors. I retired from the agency and relocated to Iowa in 2014.

I am currently an evaluator for the Council on Accreditation and am  a former COA and Hague commissioner. I  have volunteered in various other areas for COA.

 Currently, I am a Substitute Teacher and a Para Educator for the Mt Pleasant Community School District.  I am a board member for the Henry Habitat for Humanity, a local nonprofit agency. I am also a research assistant for the Kwajalein MIA project, nonprofit agency seeking to identify relatives of WWII missing in action service members.
