YSS Youth Advocacy Award 2012 - AMP | Achieving Maximum Potential

YSS Youth Advocacy Award 2012

Shawn and Shane Halbur were recently awarded the Youth & Shelter Services annual Youth Advocacy Leadership Award. The brothers participate in the Fort Dodge Achieving Maximum Potential (AMP) program, which is operated by Youth Shelter Care of North Central Iowa.  The Fort Dodge AMP foster care youth council was launched over a year ago as a youth-driven, statewide group that seeks to unleash the full potential for personal growth among foster and adoptive children in Iowa.   Summarized by the motto, “Nothing about us, without us,” AMP is a youth engagement program.  AMP involves young people as advocates for themselves and as a voice for system-level improvements in child welfare policies and practices.  Shawn and Shane are outstanding examples of how Fort Dodge youth can contribute and help to make Iowa’s foster care and adoption system more responsive and effective.
