Mt. Pleasant AMP - AMP | Achieving Maximum Potential

Mt. Pleasant AMP

Welcome to the Mt Pleasant AMP page!

What is AMP?

AMP meetings are a time for youth to gain valuable life skills for healthy transitions into adulthood, learn about local resources, and socialize while in a supportive and well-supervised environment of youth with similar experiences. AMP is a statewide network of youth councils made up of youth aged 13-23 who support and advocate for themselves and other youth who are currently or who have ever been in an out of home placement (foster, adoptive, kinship, shelter, residential or group care).

AMP youth speaks to foster parents

At the meeting she talked about AMP and how it helps her, about the guest speaker we had had in February and how he helped her to learn to forgive (her past) and move forward.  She talked about her money she got for her Dream Seed.   The foster parents LOVED her.  It was beyond cool!!

The meeting was next to the Mississippi and she was in awe of the river.  Afterwards, I took her to a river overlook point and snapped a picture of her.

Burlington youth at "AMP Day on the Hill 2015

Terri Bailey and Dave Heaton attended AMP in Mt Pleasant to discuss the 2016 AMP Legislative agenda. It was so much fun to watch the kids light up and engage with Dave as he spoke to them about AMP Day on the Hill. Youth explained how hard it was to get permission for school activities and how they missed learning to drive while in shelter.
